    Peanut Stocks: Utilization Down 1%, 3.2Bln Pounds in Storage

    Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on May 31, 2022 totaled 3.22 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 2.90 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 2.42 billion pounds of actual farmer stock.

    Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 764 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 32.4 million pounds.

    Shelled peanut stocks totaled 575 million pounds of which 549 million pounds were edible grades and 25.4 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 88.8 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 431 million pounds of Runners, and 29.2 million pounds of Spanish.

    Millings in May totaled 399 million pounds. Millings by type were 81.2 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 311 million pounds of Runners, and 6.96 million pounds of Spanish.

    Commercial processors utilized 200 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during May. Utilization by type was 114 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 39.2 million pounds for peanut candy, and 42.3 million pounds for peanut snacks. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 53.4 million pounds during the month.

    Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.76 million pounds of peanut butter and 77.8 thousand pounds of roasted peanuts during May.

    Stocks of treated seed on hand May 31, 2022 totaled 12.7 million pounds, compared with 37.0 million pounds on April 30, 2022. Of the May total, 10.7 million pounds were Runners. April stocks of treated seed included 29.6 million pounds of Runners.
