Peanut Stocks: Utilization Up 1%, 4Bln Pounds in Storage

    Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on March 31, 2022 totaled 4.09 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 3.83 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 3.26 billion pounds of actual farmer stock.

    Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 802 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 31.9 million pounds.

    Shelled peanut stocks totaled 603 million pounds of which 574 million pounds were edible grades and 28.9 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 80.5 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 461 million pounds of Runners, and 32.5 million pounds of Spanish.

    Millings in March totaled 535 million pounds. Millings by type were 89.0 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 442 million pounds of Runners, and 3.90 million pounds of Spanish.

    Commercial processors utilized 220 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during March. Utilization by type was 124 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 47.5 million pounds for peanut candy, and 43.4 million pounds for peanut snacks. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 53.2 million pounds during the month.

    Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.01 million pounds of peanut butter and 51.8 thousand pounds of roasted peanuts during March.

    Stocks of treated seed on hand March 31, 2022 totaled 29.3 million pounds, compared with 11.0 million pounds on February 28, 2022. Of the March total, 21.1 million pounds were Runners. February stocks of treated seed included 7.80 million pounds of Runners.
