Peanut Stocks: Utilization Up 3%, 2Bln Pounds in Storage

    Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on July 31, 2021 totaled 1.97 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 2.12 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 1.28 billion pounds of actual farmer stock.

    Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 656 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 31.7 million pounds.

    Shelled peanut stocks totaled 493 million pounds of which 466 million pounds were edible grades and 27.2 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 68.9 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 375 million pounds of Runners, and 22.6 million pounds of Spanish.

    Millings in July totaled 359 million pounds. Millings by type were 50.0 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 308 million pounds of Runners, and 1.88 million pounds of Spanish.

    Commercial processors utilized 207 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during July. Utilization by type was 119 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 39.3 million pounds for peanut candy, and 42.3 million pounds for peanut snacks. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 58.1 million pounds during the month.

    Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 3.95 million pounds of peanut butter and 77.8 thousand pounds of roasted peanuts during July.

    Stocks of treated seed on hand July 31, 2021 totaled 1.34 million pounds, compared with 6.49 million pounds on June 30, 2021. Of the July total, 610 thousand pounds were Runners. June stocks of treated seed included 4.28 million pounds of Runners.
