Each year the LSU AgCenter hosts a rice and soybean production meeting in Welsh. In years past, it has always been an “in-person” meeting and we were really looking forward to having an in-person meeting for 2021. However, 2020 has brought many challenges to us. Due to COVID-19 and the restrictions set in place by the State of Louisiana and the LSU AgCenter, we felt it was in our best interest to have a virtual rice and soybean production meeting for 2021 so that you can view the rice and soybean content in an area where you deem is safe for you.
LSU AgCenter specialists will pre-record their presentations and the LSU AgCenter will create a video that you can watch anytime, anywhere. The link to the 2021 Rice & Soybean Production Meeting will be sent out the first week in January once the video is edited and posted.
Topics that will be covered in the video will be as followed (not in any particular order):
- 2021 Recommended Rice Varieties (Dr. Adam Famoso)
- 2020/2021 Rice Extension Update (Dr. Ronnie Levy)
- Rice Agronomy/Fertility (Dr. Dustin Harrell)
- Rice Weed Control (Dr. Eric Webster)
- Rice Disease Control (Dr. Don Groth)
- Rice Insect Control (Dr. Blake Wilson)
- Rice/Soybean Market Outlook (Dr. Michael Deliberto)
- Crawfish Production (Mr. Mark Shirley)
- Soybean Production (Dr. David Moseley)
Once the video is complete and posted, a link will be sent out so that you can view.
**** Also, there will still be the Private Pesticide Recertification Meetings this January – March in two different ways. You will have the opportunity to watch the recertification online through your computer at home or come to an in-person class. You will have to pre-register to attend the class online or in-person and if full will have to attend at another time period. Extra classes are being planned to accommodate everyone that needs to be recertified from this year and last year.
More information will be sent about online or in person options and dates and times in another email as they are approved.
