    Peanut Stocks: Utilization Up 2%, 4.2 Bln Pounds in Storage

    Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on March 31, 2018 totaled 4.21 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 3.09 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 3.35 billion pounds of actual farmer stock.

    Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 811 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 48.8 million pounds.

    Shelled peanut stocks totaled 610 million pounds of which 585 million pounds were edible grades and 24.7 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 110 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 439 million pounds of Runners, and 35.5 million pounds of Spanish.

    Millings in March totaled 469 million pounds. Millings by type were 74.9 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 388 million pounds of Runners, and 6.31 million pounds of Spanish.

    Commercial processors utilized 186 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during March. Utilization by type was 103 million pounds for all peanut butter products, 31.0 million pounds for peanut candy, and 44.1 million pounds for peanut snacks. Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 41.4 million pounds during the month.

    Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.24 million pounds of peanut butter during March.

    Stocks of treated seed on hand March 31, 2018 totaled 21.5 million pounds, compared with 3.61 million pounds on February 28, 2018. Of the March total, 5.20 million pounds were Virginias and Valencias and 16.3 million pounds were Runners.
