Want a chance to compare a number of new almond varieties at the same time? The northern location of the Regional Almond Variety Trial project will host a field day on June 22 at the site, Chico State University’s University Farm. The event begins at 9 a.m.
Attendees can gear about these newest varieties, see preliminary data on varieties in the trial and judge which new varieties might fit in their next orchard.
UC personnel will be on hand to answer questions. That will include Tom Gradziel (UC Davis Almond Breeding Program), Bruce Lampinen (UC Davis Almond Specialist), and Dani Lightle (UCCE Orchards Advisor.
Additionally, Rich Rosecrance (CSU Chico Plant Sciences), Allan Fulton (UCCE Irrigation Advisor) and Lee Johnson (NASA) will discuss their research into irrigation scheduling using satellite imagery, which is taking place in the variety trial orchard.
To reach the site, take Nicholas C Shouten Lane off of Hegan Lane in Chico. From there, signs will lead attendees to to the variety trial.
