The South Plains Scout School conducted by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service will be May 25 at the Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center, 1102 E. Farm-to-Market Road 1294, Lubbock.
Dr. Suhas Vyavhare, AgriLife Extension entomologist at Lubbock, said registration is at 8 a.m. followed by the program from 8:30 a.m. until noon.
“This program is all about learning how to scout for insects in our area’s major crops,” Vyavhare said. “The program is free and geared toward crop consultants, farmers and their workers, AgriLife Extension agents and their interns, and any agricultural-related worker interested in a great opportunity to learn how to scout fields and manage insect pests more effectively.”
Topics will include:
- Cotton; agronomy and plant mapping, insect pests and scouting, hands-on cotton plant mapping.
- Corn and grain sorghum; agronomy and insect pests, beneficial insects.
- Peanuts; insects and diseases.
Three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units will be offered.
