    LSU AgCenter Sets 2 Rice Field Days for July

    The LSU AgCenter will have two area field days in July for rice farmers.

    A field day in St. Landry parish will be held on July 6 at the Charlie Fontenot farm.

    The event will start at 8:30 a.m. with talks on rice variety development, rice agronomy, crop diseases, insect control, the current grain market and an irrigation study.

    Presentations also will be made on cotton and soybean variety trials being conducted at the Fontenot farm.

    Directional signs to the event will be posted on Veazie Road starting in Palmetto.

    The Northeast Louisiana Rice Field Day will be held on July 13 in Morehouse Parish at the farm of Vic Jordan. Drive east from Oak Ridge on La. Highway 134 for 2.5 miles, then turn south on Tower Drive, which ends at the farm.

    Presentations will begin at 9 a.m. and include talks on fertility, variety development, fungicides, fertility, weed control, insects and an update on soybeans.

    After the field tour, the event will continue at the Rayville Civic Center at noon with lunch.
