Andrew Khun reports for the Merced Sun-Star that thousands of almond hulls totaling more than 5000 tons caught fire at 5 a.m. at Minturn Huller Cooperative outside Chowchilla. 20 firefighters worked with company employees to contain the blaze, which threatened another 120,000 tons of almond hulls. The cause of the fire was unknown.
