    Illinois: Harvest Coming to an End – USDA

    Harvest is wrapping up, leaving tillage and fertilizer applications as the primary field activities. Statewide, precipitation averaged 0.49 inches, 0.14 inches below normal. The average temperature was 53.3 degrees, 7.7 degrees above normal. There were 4.9 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending November 8.

    Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 5 percent very short, 21 percent short, 69 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 6 percent very short, 29 percent short, 61 percent adequate, and 4 percent surplus.

    Sorghum harvest was 94 percent complete, compared to 82 percent complete last year and the 5-year average of 88 percent.

    Winter wheat planted reached 96 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 94 percent. Winter wheat emerged reached 86 percent, 10 percentage points ahead of the 5-year average. Winter wheat condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 31 percent fair, 49 percent good, and 11 percent excellent.

    Pasture and range condition was rated 8 percent very poor, 13 percent poor, 38 percent fair, 38 percent good, and 3 percent excellent.
