    Illinois: Wheat Planting Nearly Complete – USDA

    Row crop harvest and winter wheat planting are nearly complete across the state. Most of the state received over an inch of rain last week, improving pasture conditions and soil moisture supplies. Statewide, precipitation averaged 1.4 inches, 0.65 inches above normal. The average temperature was 49.1 degrees, 2.6 degrees below normal.

    There were 4.2 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending November 1. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 6 percent very short, 32 percent short, 57 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 8 percent very short, 35 percent short, 53 percent adequate, and 4 percent surplus.

    Corn harvest was 96 percent complete, 22 percentage points ahead of last year at this time.

    Soybean harvest was 96 percent complete, compared to the 5-year average of 91 percent.

    Sorghum harvest was 91 percent complete, compared to 72 percent complete last year and the 5-year average of 82 percent.

    Winter wheat planted reached 89 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 87 percent. Winter wheat emerged reached 69 percent, 36 percentage points ahead of last year at this time. Winter wheat condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 9 percent poor, 32 percent fair, 50 percent good, and 8 percent excellent. Pasture and range condition was rated 9 percent very poor, 15 percent poor, 40 percent fair, 34 percent good, and 2 percent excellent.
