After several days of sunny weather (minus Saturday), field conditions have improved enough in many places that we are able to get the tractors rolling again. This week, we’ve seen a lot of peanut diggers, combines, and cotton pickers at work trying to collect whats left of the crops.
We’re seeing lots of regrowth and hardlocked bolls, but at least the sprouted seeds are drying up and withering away. The photo below shows some lint that was knocked out of the bolls by the picker. The bolls were hardlocked and the lint never had the chance to fluff up, so the picker wasn’t able to grab it.
If a field has a ton of regrowth that you need to get rid of before picking to avoid staining the lint, you can spray 1 oz of Aim with 1% crop oil. Here some more cotton picking photos from Dillon County.
