    North Dakota: Spring, Durum Wheat Harvests Well Ahead of Pace – USDA

    Crop Progress for the Week Ending September 13, 2015.

    For the week ending September 13, 2015, minimal precipitation was received across the State, while temperatures averaged two to four degrees below normal, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. Harvest of early planted row crops began late in the week. Livestock producers were hauling hay and beginning to wean calves. There were 6.3 days suitable for fieldwork.

    Topsoil moisture supplies rated 4 percent very short, 29 short, 64 adequate, and 3 surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 3 percent very short, 27 short, 68 adequate, and 2 surplus.

    Field Crops Report: Winter wheat planted was 34 percent, ahead of 21 last year.

    Durum wheat harvested was 88 percent, well ahead of 32 last year and the five-year average of 64.

    Spring wheat harvested was 97 percent, well ahead of 62 last year, and ahead of 83 average.

    Corn condition rated 1 percent very poor, 8 poor, 21 fair, 58 good, and 12 excellent. Corn dented was 81 percent, well ahead of 56 last year, and ahead of 75 average. Mature was 13 percent, ahead of 2 last year, but behind 23 average.

    Soybean condition rated 2 percent very poor, 9 poor, 26 fair, 53 good, and 10 excellent. Soybeans dropping leaves was 68 percent, well ahead of 34 last year and 47 average. Harvested was 1 percent, near 0 last year and 4 average.

    Canola harvested was 79 percent, ahead of 65 last year, but near 75 average.

    Sunflower condition rated 0 percent very poor, 8 poor, 21 fair, 63 good, and 8 excellent. Sunflowers ray flowers dried was 92 percent, well ahead of 69 last year, and ahead of 80 average. Bracts turning yellow was 54 percent, well ahead of 17 last year, and ahead of 45 average. Bracts turning brown was 15 percent.

    Flaxseed harvested was 74 percent, well ahead of 27 last year and 47 average.

    Dry edible beans condition rated 3 percent very poor, 13 poor, 27 fair, 50 good, and 7 excellent. Dry edible beans dropping leaves was 93 percent, ahead of 86 last year and 82 average. Harvested was 49 percent, well ahead of 15 last year and 25 average.

    Lentils harvested was 91 percent.

    Potato condition rated 2 percent very poor, 8 poor, 27 fair, 54 good, and 9 excellent. Potatoes vines dry was 59 percent, ahead of 51 last year, but near 58 average. Harvested was 11 percent, ahead of 5 last year, but near 13 average.

    Sugarbeet condition rated 0 percent very poor, 2 poor, 17 fair, 55 good, and 26 excellent. Sugarbeets harvested was 12 percent, ahead of 4 last year and 7 average.

    Livestock, Pasture and Range Report: Pasture and range conditions rated 1 percent very poor, 9 poor, 37 fair, 47 good, and 6 excellent.

    Stock water supplies rated 1 percent very short, 18 short, 77 adequate, and 4 surplus.
