For the week ending September 13, 2015, warm, wet conditions were experienced throughout most of the State, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service. There were 5.7 days suitable for fieldwork. Topsoil moisture rated 9 percent very short, 28 short, 61 adequate, and 2 surplus. Subsoil moisture rated 9 percent very short, 26 short, 65 adequate, and 0 surplus.
Field Crops Report: Winter wheat planted rated 5 percent, equal to last year and the five-year average.
Corn condition rated 4 percent very poor, 8 poor, 32 fair, 46 good, and 10 excellent. Corn dented was 91 percent, near 88 last year and 93 average. Mature was 54 percent, ahead of 45 last year, but near 57 average. Harvested was 11 percent, behind 17 last year and 25 average.
Soybeans condition rated 2 percent very poor, 8 poor, 35 fair, 47 good, and 8 excellent. Soybeans setting pods was 96 percent, near 99 last year, and equal to the average. Dropping leaves rated 19 percent, near 20 last year and 22 average.
Sorghum condition rated 2 percent very poor, 5 poor, 28 fair, 55 good, and 10 excellent. Sorghum coloring was 83 percent, ahead of 65 last year and 67 average. Mature rated 23 percent, ahead of 13 both last year and average. Harvested was 2 percent, equal to last year and average.
Sunflowers condition rated 1 very poor, 2 poor, 30 fair, 59 good, and 8 excellent. Sunflowers blooming was 97 percent, near 94 last year and 98 average. Ray flowers dried rated 48 percent, near 50 last year, but behind 64 average.
Alfalfa fourth cutting was 65 percent, ahead of 46 both last year and average.
Cotton condition rated 0 percent very poor, 10 poor, 27 fair, 53 good, and 10 excellent. Cotton setting bolls was 93 percent, near 90 last year, and equal to the average. Bolls opening rated 23 percent, near 24 last year, but behind 28 average.
