Crop Progress and Condition for the Week Ending September 13, 2015.
Rain and cool temperatures occurred throughout the state last week slowing corn harvest advancement. Statewide, precipitation averaged 1.59 inches, 0.80 inches above normal. The average temperature was 69.1 degrees, 0.4 degrees below normal. There were 4.8 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending September 13.
Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 3 percent very short, 20 percent short, 71 percent adequate, and 6 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 3 percent very short, 19 percent short, 72 percent adequate, and 6 percent surplus.
Corn dented reached 95 percent, compared to 90 percent last year and the 5-year average of 92 percent. Corn mature reached 61 percent, a jump of 18 percentage points from last week. Corn harvest was 6 percent complete, compared to 12 percent for the 5-year average. Corn condition was rated 5 percent very poor, 10 percent poor, 30 percent fair, 43 percent good, and 12 percent excellent.
Soybeans coloring was at 62 percent, a jump of 23 percentage points from last week. Soybean condition was rated 5 percent very poor, 12 percent poor, 30 percent fair, 44 percent good, and 9 percent excellent.
Sorghum mature was at 36 percent, an increase of 14 percentage points from last week.
Pasture and range condition was rated 3 percent very poor, 9 percent poor, 35 percent fair, 44 percent good, and 9 percent excellent.
