There is no telling how much of a hit Louisiana’s agriculture industry has taken from recent flooding at the Red River. Assessing the damage could take weeks, or even months.
Some farmers have lost all of their crops, and for some could be until next spring before they are able to plant again. There have also predictions of livestock losses because of disease and low weight due to the stressful conditions.
Even after the water resides it could take some time before the land is rehabilitated. All the nutrients on flooded land will have to be replaced.
