The University of Arkansas noted late Friday that the Kellogg Company will not buy the new rice variety Caffey. The information was included in today’s Arkansas Rice Update.
“After testing, the medium-grain variety Caffey did not meet the necessary requirements to be approved by the Kellogg Company for use in their products,” according to a brief statement in the newsletter. It is unknown at this time what impact this will have on being to sell Caffey grown this season, but it would be wise to confirm you have somewhere to sell this variety before you grow it in 2015.”
Further details were not available Friday night.
