    Texas: Quail Appreciation Day Slated Oct. 15 in Floresville

    The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service and others will present a Quail Appreciation Day from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Oct. 15 at the Floresville Event Center, 600 Highway 97 West in Floresville.

    The program will offer three Texas Department of Agriculture continuing education units – two general and one integrated pest management.

    The agenda for the morning will begin with registration at 8:30 a.m.

    The main presenter for the a.m. will be Dr. Dale Rollins, AgriLife Extension wildlife specialist, San Angelo. His presentation topics will be Appreciating Quail; Getting to Know Your Quail; FAQs about Quail; and Restocking Quail, Cows and Quail, Foods and Feeding/Predators.

    Additional morning topics and speakers will be:

    • Quail Research Updates, Dr. Eric Grahmann, Caesar Kleberg Wildlife Research Institute, San Antonio.
    • Management Issues for Post Oak and South Texas Ecoregion, Robert Perez, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, La Vernia.
    • QuailMasters and Bobwhite Brigade, Josh and Micayla Pearson, La Vernia.

    Lunch will begin at 12:20 p.m., followed by the afternoon program, which will include stops at two field sites. The first stop will focus on quail management goals, plant identification and predation management alternatives. The second stop will focus on dummy nests, “eggshell CSI” to identify predators and evaluating quail habitat.

    The cost is $10 before Oct. 8 and $20 thereafter.
