    California Cotton: West Side Field Day Set For September 11

    The 2014 West Side Research and Extension Center California Cotton and Agronomic Crops Field Day will be held Thursday, September 11, at the center. Registration starts at 8:30 a.m., with the program running from 9 a.m. to noon.

    This year’s program includes:

    • Cotton Fusarium Wilt research update. Bob Hutmacher, UC Cooperative Extension, Five Points.
    • Control of Late Season Insects: Avoiding Sticky Cotton. Pete Goodell, UC Cooperative Extension, Parlier.
    • Forage Sorghum: Assessing the potential for growth in California. Jeff Dahlberg, UC Cooperative Extension, Parlier.
    • Sugar Beet Research and Bioenergy Potential. Steve Kaffka, UC Cooperative Extension, Davis
    • Defoliation’s Role in Avoiding Sticky Cotton. Steve Wright, UC Cooperative Extension, Tulare-Kings County.
    • Overhead irrigation and conservation tillage studies in cotton-wheat rotations. Gerardo van den Hoek and Jeff Mitchell, UC Cooperative Extension Davis, Five Points.
    • Deficit Irrigation Research in cotton. Dan Munk and Bob Hutmacher, UC Cooperative Extension, Fresno and Five Points.
