Louisiana State University will be hosting a hands-on field tour of rice disease research plots next week on Tuesday, August 26. Dr. Clayton Hollier, Dr. Jong Ham and Dr. Don Groth will be available to discuss rice disease control. The tour will start at 9 AM at the pathology research plots across Highway 1111 on the Rice Research Station. The physical address for GPS systems is 186 Croughan Lane, Crowley, La., 70526-3106.
Included will be disease nurseries with most of the current rice varieties infected with sheath blight, blast and bacterial panicle blight. There are also demonstration plots of boot, heading and boot plus heading fungicide applications against blast and sheath blight. You will be able to walk through management trials for blast and Cercospora using disease resistance and fungicides. Remember to bring your boots!
