Arkansas Soybeans: Insect, Disease Pressure Increases in Verification Fields

Rainfall was more abundant in the northern part of the state this week. Insect and disease pressure has increased in the verification fields this week, with a couple of the fields requiring treatment for both insects & diseases. Despite the recent rainfall some of the fields need irrigation. We are still cleaning up the late planted fields with herbicide applications in preparation for irrigation.

Arkansas	Asgrow 5233 RR/ STS	R2	Field is pretty clean, few morning glories and some grass.
Clark	NK S48-F8 RR	R2	Field has not had second glyphosate application and is a little weedy with morning glories and teaweed. Should be sprayed this week.
Clay	Halo 5:26 LL	V8	Field received 0.8″ rainfall since last visit. Second application of Liberty was applied & is doing a good job on weed escapes. No insect or disease pressure this week. Field continues to grow well.
Cross	Progeny 4211 RR	R5	The field received 1.05″ rain since last visit. Frogeye levels were about the same as last week, but Cercospra was found & recommended 14oz/A Quadris Top for control. Found treatment level for stinkbugs & recommended Karate Z or generic equivalent.
Desha	Armor DK 4744 RR	R5	Field continues to look excellent and is receiving third irrigation this week. Treatment level green stink bugs and frogeye are present and should be treated this week with bifenthrin and Stratego YLD.
Jefferson	Delta Grow 4990LL	R2	Received .45″ rain. Irrigated 7-4-14. Starting to grow faster. Morning glories and teaweed are present. Recommended 30 oz Liberty when field dries.
Lawrence – Rice	Asgrow 4232 RR	R2	Field received 1.72″ of rainfall since last visit. Rounup PowerMax wasn’t applied due to rain. Field looks good and continues to move forward.
Lawrence – Wright	Leland	V12	Field received 1″ rain since last visit. The Select was applied on 7/4 & is working on grass. No insect or disease pressure this week.
Lafayette	Pioneer 94Y80 RR	R3	Field looks good. Free of insects and disease. Should be irrigated again this week.
Lee	Asgrow 4632 RR/STS	V1	Plant populations are running around 55-60,000 plants/ac. Recommended replanting.
Phillips-1	Osage	R3/R2	Irrigation should initiate this week if no rain. 2 brown stink bugs/25 sweeps. Older beans are close to lapping. Starting to look better. Found very few frogeye spots.
Phillips-2	Asgrow 4632 RR/STS	R3	Should receive second irrigation this week. Still a little stunted from herbicide damage, however new growth looks fine. Insect and disease free.
Prairie	Pioneer 95Y40 RR	V10	We got 0.4″ of rain on field since last week. Recommended 32oz/A Roundup PowerMax for emerged grass & broadleaves. No insect or disease pressure this week.
Randolph	Asgrow RR 4533	V3	Field received 1.5″ since last week. The field is starting to struggle due to saturated conditions. Recommended 40oz/A Roundup PowerMax for weed control as soon as field dries out.
St. Francis	TV 49L29 LL	R5	Field received 0.22″ rainfall since last week. Field looks good and continues progress well. No insect or disease pressure this week.
White	NK S49-F8 RR	V4	Field received 0.15″ rain since last week. Beans have pretty much grown out of the burn received from the Blazer application. Picked up grass, but was very spotty. Going to look at field again next week & determine herbicide application.
