    Texas Rice: Beaumont Field Day Set For July 10

    “Feed Rice ~ Feed Texas!” is the theme for the 67th annual field day for Texas A&M AgriLife Research-Beaumont, 1509 Aggie Dr.

    The event begins July 10 with field tours at 8 a.m. and an indoor program at 10:45 a.m. Afternoon field tours will begin at 1 p.m.

    Dr. Ted Wilson, Center Director, will open the program with a brief overview of the Center’s research. Keynote speakers include:

    • Dan Bradshaw, Independent Crop Consultant.
    • Dr. Fugen Dou, Assistant Professor, Texas A&M AgriLife Research.
    • Dr. Upendra Singh, Principal Scientist – Systems Modeler, International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC).

    Mr. Bradshaw will provide a crop consultant’s perspective on past and present rice fertility management. Dr. Dou will discuss soil nitrogen transformation within a rice paddy and how to increase nitrogen utilization efficiency. Dr. Singh will address how to improve P and K nutrient use efficiency.

    The morning tour stops will showcase recent developments in rice breeding, plant physiology, nutrient management, and disease and insect management. An afternoon tour will include organic rice and biofuels crops.

    Licensed private, commercial, and non-commercial pesticide applicators (TDA licensees only) participating in this field day may obtain IPM and general continuing education credit for recertification.

    The event is open to the public at no charge. A barbecue lunch will be provided.
