Peanut stocks reported in commercial storage on May 31, 2014 totaled 2.40 billion pounds of equivalent farmer stock, compared with 3.56 billion pounds a year ago. This total includes 1.48 billion pounds of actual farmer stock.
Shelled peanuts on hand totaled 852 million pounds of farmer stock equivalent. Roasting stock totaled 64.5 million pounds.
Shelled peanut stocks totaled 641 million pounds of which 612 million pounds were edible grades and 28.8 million pounds were oil stocks. Edible grade stocks by type included 55.2 million pounds of Virginias and
Valencias, 532 million pounds of Runners, and 24.9 million pounds of Spanish.
Millings in May totaled 449 million pounds. Millings by type were 74.1 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 375 million pounds of Runners, and 654,000 pounds of Spanish.
Commercial processors utilized 170 million pounds of shelled edible grade peanuts during May. Utilization by type was 102 million pounds for all peanut butter products, and 33.0 million pounds for peanut candy.
Crushing for oil and cake and meal totaled 41.4 million pounds during the month.
Deliveries under the Government Domestic Feeding and Child Nutrition Programs amounted to 1.95 million pounds of peanut butter and 25,920 pounds of roasted peanuts during May.
Stocks of treated seed on hand May 31, 2014 totaled 21.8 million pounds, compared with 43.0 million pounds on April 30, 2014. Of the May total, 7.72 million pounds were Virginias and Valencias, 13.6 million pounds were Runners, and 509,000 pounds were Spanish. April stocks of treated seed included 12.9 million pounds of Virginias and Valencias, 29.1 million pounds of Runners, and 951,000 pounds of Spanish.
