    New Mexico: Rains Benefit Crops, Soils; Hail Damage Reported – USDA

    Crop Progress and Condition for the Week Ending June 15, 2014.

    Days suitable for fieldwork were 4.6. Topsoil moisture was 43% very short, 22% short and 35% adequate. Subsoil moisture 43% very short, 23% short and 34% adequate.

    County Comments:

    Taos – Rain showers have improved rangeland, crop land & livestock conditions. Main farm activities were flood irrigation on crop lands, ditch improvements and the release of livestock to Forest Service or other permitted pastures.

    Rio Arriba – Spotty showers and very high winds took place this week. The first cutting of hay is under way in the Espanola valley.

    Lea – Several producers are starting to report hail damage to crops from hail storms that occurred June 7-8, 2014.
