Crop Progress and Condition for the Week Ending April 27, 2014.
Corn planting progressed to 47 percent complete, up 21 percentage points from last week. Corn emerged progressed to 10 percent which is 5 percent behind the 5-year average. There were 4.0 days suitable for fieldwork for the week ending April 27. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 1 percent very short, 19 percent short, 67 percent adequate, and 13 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 10 percent very short, 33 percent short, 52 percent adequate, and 5 percent surplus.
Winter wheat condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 10 percent poor, 45 percent fair, 38 percent good, and 5 percent excellent. Rice planting has progressed to 45 percent complete. Rice emerged progressed to 7 percent. Pasture condition was rated 3 percent very poor, 14 percent poor, 50 percent fair, 30 percent good, and 3 percent excellent.
Statewide, temperatures averaged 61.0 degrees, which is 2.6 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.95 inches statewide. Some parts of southern Missouri reported heavy rain and flooding.
