North Carolina Peanuts: New Product for Pest Control

While the first peanut is yet to go in the ground, we do have a new product added to the arsenal for insect control.

DuPont received a label for Prevathon with the active ingredient Rynaxypyr for corn earworm, beet armyworm and fall armyworm control.

Use rates are 14.0-20.0 fl oz per acre. The uniqueness of this product is the worker protection Reentry Interval is only 4 hours and there is only a 1 day harvest restriction.

It is reported to have minimal impact on beneficial insects, but I do not know how much impact this will have on reducing the likelihood of flaring spider mites late in the summer during hot weather.
