Louisiana:

Rice harvest begins

Staff Report

July 14, 2008 – A small amount of rice harvest has started in south Louisiana.

Stuart J. Gauthier, an Extension agent who works in Lafayette and Vermilion Parishes, reported in a memo this morning that 2 farmers had begun cutting rice.

"I received a report that Mark Simon harvested some early planted Cocodrie and Josh Trahan harvested some early planted Trenasse," Gauthier said.

No reports yet on yield.

Some rice harvest was expected to start late last week in Texas, but there were no reports of cutting on the Texas Rice Crop Survey web site as of its last update on Friday.
